Athlete of the Year:
We are proud to announce that our 2007 Athlete of the Year is Shane Logan. This past year Shane has shown a tremendous growth in running. Shane started off the year battling the elements in Boston. Despite the conditions he finished the marathon in 2:46:41. Determined to break that 2:40 barrier Shane spent the summer months racing shorter distances. Some results from this time frame were: 4:45 at the Firecracker mile, 16:36.49 at the 5k Guru Track Event, 1:17:18 in the Martian Half Marathon, 57:41 at Crim and 1:52:17 at the 30k in Milford to name a few. Once the fall rolled around Shane put all this hard work to the test when toeing the line in NYC. He crossed the finish line with his goal reached running 2:39:12, what a weekend to run a personal best. Shane wasn't done there a few weeks after NYC he traveled to Memphis to run 2:40:03 to finish off his 2007 racing season.
Shane deserves this acknowledgement because of his racing skills but also for the great team camaraderie he has shown at the workouts and in races. On the track he continuously showed support for all runners at all levels. Numerous times Shane has finished his race to only run back to run fellow friends/teammate in. He even ran 16 miles with a struggling marathoner in Detroit this year, helping him each step of the way.
Congrats!
Ron Ramaut
Ron is still setting personal best at 54 yrs old! Ron, who is one of the original RunGuru Team members, recently set a personal best by 1 min and 52 seconds this weekend at the Detroit 5k Zoo Run, posting a time of 22:22. He just keeps chugging along with a mix of experience, smart training and hard work. Ron will be focusing on the marathon in Phoenix this winter where he hopes to..... After his big PR's in the shorter distances it would be hard to bet against him. Good luck Ron!
FINALLY....I am very excited for this athlete this month. After a long season of racing, Danielle Hobbs finally broke the 18 min barrier at our very own RunGuru 5k. Danielle’s season started all the way back during the collegiate outdoor track campaign. She had recently run 18:25 and 18:08 on back to back days in the Reed’s Lake 5k and the Freedom Run showing her fitness. Hobbs then demonstrated her speed was coming around with a 5:15 4th place finish at the Clawson Firecracker Mile. With everything in place, Hobbs was able to peak perfectly for the RunGuru race winning the women’s division in 17:58.7. This upcoming fall season Ms. Hobbs will have her sites focused on the Grand Rapids Marathon. Good luck Danielle!
John Crumm is our Athlete of the month this June. Last weekend he finally broke the 20:00 barrier in the 5k posting a stellar 19:05 in the Clawson 5k.
